Mosquito the Manchester and Cheshire digital brand communications agency have worked closely with Arm to build a new browser-based software tool for high-performance computing.
Arm Code Advisor works with Arm’s other high-performance computing (HPC) tools to provide an integrated workflow for code analysis and improvement. The tool enables super computing systems to review code and provide actionable advice by simply allowing a user to visually see how to increase performance and efficiencies directly in the line of each code statement. Uses of Code Advisor could include code improvements to modelling weather systems, fraud analysis, genomic sequencing and many other high computational activities.
The enterprise capability within Mosquito's boutique service offer meant the whole process could be delivered in-house by Mosquito: From software design, incorporating user-centered design workshops coupled with agile design processes to build prototypes for UI and UX testing. Working closely with Arm’s Manchester and Cambridge teams, alongside HPC test users, Mosquito interfaced directly with Arm to provide a fluid and intuitive approach to developing the product.
Code Advisor provides simple, actionable advice to tune an HPC application on Arm system. The code advice combines static and dynamic information to produce 'actionable insights'. The browser-based software lets users produce high quality, high performing code on Arm target systems by advising users how they can improve their code to take better advantage of the Arm architecture's features. Arm Code Advisor forms an integral part of the develop-compile-optimise cycle.
Along with providing real-time, inline code advice to help maximise efficiencies within code, the product was developed to allow HPC users the opportunity to extend the code advice tool through custom plugins, meaning it was extensible and customisable for each supercomputing need.
